I have this odd feeling like I should be doing something or shouldn't be doing something. Scratch part of that, I KNOW I should be doing something.

Val needs attention. Badly. I want to wipe his faceup and start from scratch now that I know hoe to do it better. I want to send him to that woman on DoA and get his scars done properly, if she's still offering. I kind of vanished from the doll scene for several months. Just like I've pretty much vanished from GaiaOnline now that my internet access at work is restricted.

To be honest, that last part has cut out most of my internet involvement. Which I guess states pretty clearly how much those things really mean to me. :/ The doll stuff, however... I'm serious about that. They're solid investments and I really want to get back into it.

So, maybe it's time to go onto Gaia, sell/give everything away and drop that distraction for good. Like I did for all those damn Yahoo Groups back in the day.

I have two online RP's that are trying to restart themselves, but it's slow going because of player hiatuses. Plus, getting back into MAX, taking writing seriously, trying just to learn how to live in a household with two pre-teen boys and learning how to be an adult in a new family. Not counting all the new expenses and worries that comes with it.

Ugh... now I feel overwhelmed, but at the same time... not? I dunno, it's a really weird sensation.

I blame lack of sleep. Yes.

>.>

Ever have one of those cravings where you HAVE to have something you remember loving at one time, remember it being delicious and satisfying -- only to try it and realize your tastes have changed so much that you completely over-shot the mark?

Yeah, had one of those. I had a craving to read something romantic while I was waiting for orders to come in this morning. Naturally, my mind wanders back to Sailor Moon fanfiction and reminiscing about how I used to love the drama and romance and fun of those fics.

I also remember the horrific characterizations, the rampant cliches and weak WEAK plots.

My standards for fanfiction have narrowed GREATLY since those first fanfic-reading frenzies in college. I was reminded by just how much when I went to read what was considered a GOOD SM fic-- only to find myself gagging on cliches and sugar over-dose. Oh, and reminding myself why I despise 99% of non-yaoi romance fics. Hell, why I despise 75% of YAOI romance, too. Started okay and quickly spiraled into "No, I love YOU more" and marriage proposals.

Shoot me now.

Nothing kills a craving better than over-doing it with the first bite. I need to go find something dark and violent.

My history isn't so good, but this is more myth than history anyway. The old Mechanics still preach it like it's gospel and a warning, but no one really listens anymore.

A few thousand years ago, give or take, some great scientist-Designer type guy decided to create a group of androids who lived and breathed the letter and the spirit of the three Rules of Robotics. Even more than cops, they were created to protect and serve humanity, their AI infallible and completely focused on making sure everyone lived safe and happy lives. They were code-named Elohim; some people called them "angels" after a myth from even further back.

This was the height of the Old World, where crime was almost non-existant and everything was clean and perfect. Or so the Mechanics say, anyway. Unfortunately, the Elohim programming wasn't so perfect as they thought. When it was designed, the AI was supposed to be incapable of learning and processing such human emotions as pride, greed, lust -- all the Sins of humanity. Oh, they could recognize them, but they weren't supposed to be able to duplicate them.

One unit, ELOLUC-1, called Lucifer, proved that absolute wrong. He saw the weakness of humanity and learned from it; deciding that he and his kind were better than the humans they served. He didn't want to protect, he wanted to rule. After all, Elohim were smarter, faster and stronger than any human, so why shouldn't they simply take over? The corruption in the AI spread like a virus through almost half the units before firewalls could be set up to stop it. The effects, however, were irreversable. That, combined with the units who remained loyal to their core programming, started the War that destroyed the Floating World and shattered humanities faith in robots.

----

Oh, SO MUCH blasphemy. ^.^;;

He was already handicapped, the appearance of crimson blade-wings having given Belial the advantage of height and speed while Cade called nothing more than his sword until he had little other choice. Most would have been disarmed by the child-like body even then, but nothing short of a complete system malfunction would have allowed Cade to believe only what human perception told him.

Not a child now, though, but the form of an adult male, hair still long but laced with the crackles of pulse energy drawn from the alt-dimension, armor plates sliding over artificial skin like sheets of blood; the metallic hiss of four more blade wings unsheathing breaking through the sounds of the pier slowly collapsing.

Belial was prone to gloating, his own pride a perversion of base programming that was common to those whose AI had warped when Lucifer went rogue. For a split second, Cade expected that, thinking he'd had a moment to rest --

-- A blade seemingly made of fire crashed into Chalbys's automatic guard and sent Cade flying. A beat of his own tarnished blade-wings slowed his momentum, but impacting with what remained of the pier still jarred him for a moment.

A moment that should have been fatal, but as Belial angled his weapon to strike, something collided with his back and exploded. Fire engulfed the rogue Elohim unit and just as quickly dispersed as Belial turned to look at the cause of the intrusion. Cade's stomach dropped as he followed the opponent's gaze right to the short lilin woman who had just rolled to a stop after having launched and jumped from what would have been Cade's motorcycle.
------------------

kabaryu :The scene in my head continues for the rest of the flight: Wulfie getting tossed into a break in the dimensional barrier with half-sentient particle-clouds pulling her under, Cade armor-shifting himself to save her, etc. Use your imagination.

Everyone else: Wondering where this came from?
So, I rewatched the first two episodes of PGSM. It's amazing how much they can cram into a half hour. O.o

The bit I wrote for Naruto and Sasuke's meeting is wrong. Usagi first bumps into Mamoru when he's wandering the halls of the place where Naru's mother is holding a jewelry show. Then, the next time they meet is when Usagi is on her way to cram school in the next episode.

I think the test paper scene is anime canon, isn't it? Poopy, means I'll have to change it. Oh well, no biggie. Still a good exercise. Might keep it anyway. :D

-------------

Shikamaru stared at the little fox plushie which stared back with unblinking plastic eyes. He balanced the toy a little more evenly on the cement wall and straightened. "Your owner ought to find you soon enough."

"Hey, what're you doing with that?"

Shikamaru blinked and turned to look at the approaching figure. He recognized him almost immediately: Uzumaki Naruto, the class idiot and holding the record on the most tardies in the school, though he rarely ever missed a whole day.

"Hey, Nara Shikamaru, right? Man, you're amazing! How the hell do you manage to study so much with the way you sleep in class? I'd be failing everything worse than I am now if I did that! Hey, you'll have to share your secrets."

Shikamaru let the other boy ramble, turning away to head towards his destination, hoping that Uzumaki would take the silent rejection as a sign to go away. No such luck, the blonde continued to follow him. With Uzumaki talking and Shikamaru barely acknowledging him, they made their way through Juuben's streets.

--a 1/2 hour and a lot of babbling later--

"This is my stop."

"Heh?" Naruto blinked cluelessly at him, then up at the building in front of them. "Oh, cram school, huh? Ugh, well, yeah, all yours then. Hey, enjoy the disk, all right? See you in class tomorrow, Shikamaru!"

Shikamaru's eyes widened a fraction, surprised to hear his given name said with such casual friendliness. He nodded adn turned, waving absently over his shoulder, not bothering to see if Naruto waved back. He looked down at the mini-disk in his hand and, for the first time in a while, let a slight smile light his face.

***

"Dammit, is even one of you going to be the gender you're supposed to?"

Naruto glared down at the fox plushie he'd snuck into his bag when Shikamaru's back was turned. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"Dark and brooding over there is the second Senshi."

"What?" Shock widened his eyes as he stared out at the boy entering the cram school, then back down at Kyuubi. "Are you sure?"

"Very. And we need to convince him of that fast. The Darkness is getting closer every day."
-----------------------

This was fun to write. I really do love Shikamaru. ^_^ He's going to be fun to torment.

Yes, until something better comes along, "That's not what SHE said!" is the project title. Because, frankly... Naruto is no Usagi. XD

Gaara wants to be Minako; Shukaku insists that he would be a much better Artemis than anything I cobble together for Sai. Unfortunately, making this move still leaves me with a gaping hole for Makoto's role and it sucks because I still can't seem to cast her OR Nephrite with any level of satisfaction. >.<

Is it just me, or is that really ironic considering they're paired up in the manga-Moon Kingdom past?

Some people, however, just clicked right into their role. >:D

------------------

Naruto was not having a good day. He'd started it by being late to school, late even for HIM. Two pop quizzes, forgotten homework and a ruined lunch later and the day was showing no signs of improving. Add to it the graded test that he'd been handed at the end of the day and Naruto was in no hurry to get home.

Glaring down at the failing grade scrawled in red on the page, Naruto scuffed his feet on the sidewalk. "Man, Iruka's gonna to kill me." He could already see his guardian now: glare sharps as knives, steam all but pouring from his ears. The man was an elementary school teacher and put heavy emphasis on Naruto's study habits. The fact that Naruto was barely passing, well, it could put a strain on even a saint's patience; let alone one over-worked educator.

His moping was brought to an abrupt halt when he walked into something solid. The collision sent him toppling to the ground with an "oof", scattering the papers and books he'd been carrying under his arm. Cursing, he looked around, realizing after a few seconds that the feet in front of him meant that he'd walked into a person and not a random light post.

"Hey, watch where you're--" Naruto stopped halfway into his tirade to stare at the guy whop was now straightening from picking something up off the ground. He was taller and older than the blond, maybe in his third-year of high school, or even first-year of college. Dark hair, dark eyes and the kind of good looks that girls coo'd and giggled about wistfully, annoying every other guy in the area. He looked like he was probably smart and popular.

"Nice test scores. You must be dead last in your class."

Naruto hated him on sight.

"You bastard, what do you know?" Naruto growled, scrambling to his feet and snatching at his test paper, only to have to pulled out of his reach.

"Most of the answers on this exam, which is more than I can say for you." The bastard smirked at him.

-----------------

You know he's the perfect Mamoru. Really now. ;D

Yes, this is intended to be SasuNaru, as stated in previous posts. However... this is based on PGSM. The most touching we got was a little hand-holding and a VERY meaningful Hug towards the end of the series. Most of the romance is longing glances, mournful thoughts, saving and destroying things for each other. Angst and weeping.

In other words, it ought to be a hell of a lot of fun to write. :D

EDIT 1: Grammar edit!
About a year ago, I posted my accumulated cast thoughts about a cracked-up Naruto/Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon fusion. OLD POST HERE

I don't know what triggered it, but I got some of the bug again. So, I'm writing story scraps as they come. Except, they don't seem as humor-bent as I originally intended. ^.^;; Damn my drama-bent mind.

------------------

Kyuubi thought this was going to be relatively easy. Drop down in cute plushie form, find the girl who held the soul of one of the Senshi, and proceed to lead her and the other Senshi to find the Princess before evil covered the universe. A clear-cut and simple plan, even if it did have a few gaping holes the size of the ones in his memory.

Details, details. Senshi first, Dark Kingdom second.

There was one detail the currently plushie fox hadn't counted on.

"Hey! What the hell?" Kyuubi felt himself being lifted from the ground, where he'd rolled to a stop after bouncing off of his landing-pad's head. There was a moment of disorientation and he could a pair of legs, clad in black pants, then a white dress shirt. He'd known from the moment he landed that this person was the one he'd been searching for, the one who would lead the Senshi to find the Princess -- he was flipped over and struck dumb.

"Where the hell did you come from?" The face that stared down at Kyuubi was framed in wild blond spikes, a little soft with the remainders of youth -- and very, VERY MALE.

'Well, fuck,' was the fox plushie's flabbergasted thought.

--------------

More as things develop... and trust me, there will be more. >:D

EDIT 1: After going back over the cast list, I am switching Gaara to Makoto's role and moving Sakura to Naru's. Also, I think I'm going to cast Sai as Minako with Kakashi as his manager unless a better idea comes along. Although I can't see him and Neji becoming friends, his personality fits the role better than Sakura's or Gaara's and we won't care as much when he dies. :D Ooops, that was a spoiler, wasn't it. >.> *cough*
EDIT 2: Went back and fixed some of the grammar because I'm a stickler like that. These won't beta'd or anything unless they become a complete story. At the moment, they are edible bits.
Dear author -

Your story has potential. Granted, it desperately needs a proof reader and you obviously should not be allowed near a thesaurus, but it has a a great plot, solid characters and brings up some interesting ideas.

HOWEVER --

“Cryonics is a form of time travel. And believe me, if there’s a way to go forward unharmed, there’s definitely a way to go back.”

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

First off, cryonics is defined thus: the low-temperature preservation of humans and animals that can no longer be sustained by contemporary medicine until resuscitation may be possible in the future.

They FREEZE people/animals, putting their bodies in a sort of holding pattern; asleep until the technology exists to safely wake them up and cure them. THIS IS NOT FUCKING TIME TRAVEL. They aren't traveling anywhere because they are, in fact, stuck right as they are as time moves around them. This idiocy serious irks me because you obviously did some reasearch into cryonics and cryogenics when wrote your story. The fact that you contradict yourself and try to pass it off so innocently through the mouth of a character who is supposed to be one of the most intelligent in your cast is an insult to both the reader and the characters.

Not only that, but you obviously put ZERO thought into the theory of time travel. Now, had the hero actually traveled from the past to the future, I would suspend my disbelief a bit and allow you to concoct a deus ex machina and send him back. Not everyone thinks about time/space physics as much as my friends and I; that sort of thing is common in science fiction.

BUT--!!!

HE DID NOT TRAVEL THROUGH TIME.

There was no blank spot during the millennia he was asleep in which his physical body did not exist, therefore traveling back in time would result in two of him existing in single plane of existence. Even thinking about the idea of going back to a time after he was frozen but before he woke up creates a paradox and that is a thing of badness.

Maybe I'm over-thinking this. It is just amateur fiction. If you hadn't gotten my hopes up for an intellectual story, I might not even be upset.

But you did.

I kind of want to throw large, sharp things at you now.

No Love,
Me

So, as expected, it's taking Joel and I a long time to get me moved. >.> Meaning, I'm not doing much packing at my place now that most of clothes are moved and he's not going real fast on the shifting of stuff at his place to make room for everything I'm bringing in.

And we want to move my computer and desk and stuff this weekend because Dave is up with his truck.

Erk.

I'm thinking that tonight, if nothing else happens, I'm going to go back to my apartment and spend a couple hours packing up stuff. Even if I don't plan on moving most of the stuff in my comp/craft room until MY room is built, I still need to pack it and get it off the desk and separate out what I'll need and what I won't until said room is livable. Which... will happen eventually. >.> At least that damn couch should be gone this weekend.

In other news, Ushiichan hit 70!!! :D Thus proving that, not only did Blizz make leveling after 60 a lot easier, I also really need to have my own computer more accessible so I can spend some of that leisure time doing something more constructive. ^.^;;

Like pics for my Ausflucht booys! :D :D :D ... or not. LOL I've thought about it and I have enough pics of both actors that I COULD do actual original drawing of Shinsuke and Hans. Heck, I could do other people's characters, too. Ah, the handiness of using PB's. I could get used to that. ^___^

And in Apocrypha news, we got our review back from Steve Miller (local sci-fi author). I haven't seen the in depth, yet, but he had some critique and basically said it was good but needing tuning and polishing. That's all right with me, I agree! :D So, onto book 1 draft 5 -- 6 -- something or other.

Going to stop there for now. I really ought to get back to work. *cough*

<strike>And is my touch issue weird? He's handsome when he smiles, or looks like he would be. More often than not he is scowling, sullen and mumbling to himself. Like all kobolds, however, he's too proud to assume any human form other than that of a young man and he has never shown anyone his natural form outside of rare attendances to one of the Fae Courts. He changes his human appearance just often enough to prevent questions.

Character Personality: Hans is high-strung, fussy, short-tempered, critical of others and more than a bit obsessive compulsive. In short, usually a very unpleasant person to be around. He does not like most people, human or supernatural, and openly resents the ever-changing population of a building he considers HIS. They hardly ever clean up after themselves, they damage the building, they're loud and, above all, utterly disrespectful of places and objects that are obviously not theirs.

While he's gotten used to the fact that the students will never show him the respect he thinks he deserves (even if they knew he was there), that doesn't keep him from cursing them all out under his breath as he washes dishes in the community kitchen sink, or nudges a finicky furnace into working for just one more winter.

The best way to get on his good side is to share something sweet with him. Chocolate, marzipan, candy, give him any kind of confectionary and you'll have tipped yourself toward his good graces. Haribo gummi candy is a particular favorite, though there's very little sweet that he doesn't like. Clean up after yourself and don't abuse the building and he'll never touch you or anything you own.

Just don't complain about the crappy furnace where he can hear you.

Character Biography: Not many bother to look at the old, unused fireplace in the Eichel Building's lobby and fewer still pay much attention to the antique, painted box that stands on the mantle. It's part of the decor, something leftover from when the fireplace was a first-rate spot for people the gather on cold nights. These days, less than a dozen people, including the old, superstitious head of the janitorial staff, knows what's inside the box: a carved wooden figure, dressed in bright, simple clothes, wearing a pointed cap.

That's Hans. Or, rather, it's what summoned Hans over one hundred years ago. Following the old traditions, the designers of the Eichel building, upon completing it, placed that figure and an offering of sweets on the mantle to welcome a kobold in hopes of getting one that would protect and aide the occupants.

They got their kobold, but even with the stories, none of them were really prepared for the back luck that would strike a few years later when no offering was left for several days in a row. One boy who nearly died falling down a stair well claimed that someone had tripped him. Students found their rooms ransacked, personal items and books destroyed. The staff aware of the tradition hastily resumed the offerings and the incidents stopped, but not before the danger could take hold in everyone's memory. From then on, everyone in Eichel building was warned to never touch candy left out in the public areas unless they knew for sure who it belonged to.

Thankfully for the safety and sanity of all these days, two things prevent the kobold from seriously harming those he considers offenders: the regular offerings of candy and chocolate from the janitorial staff, and a deal someone made with him some time after that first show of violence. He's very touchy about the details of the bargain and refuses to say even who it was made with, but it keeps his brand of retribution down to missing socks, dishes and the occasional vandalized book.

When Hans is visible to humans, most people assume that he's either a student or staff, especially from his casual dress, his knowledge of the building and how people occasionally catch him fiddling with a machine in the laundry room or washing dishes. When not doing chores, he can sometimes be found in the basement common room either reading, watching television, or hen-pecking away on one of the public computers. He's learned how operate modern technology from watching people, but that doesn't mean he's always good with any of it.

He can and will leave Eichel when he chooses, though he will always return to it. He can sometimes be seen in the common rooms of the other University-owned residences if the one in Eichel is too occupied, but he will not meddle with anything he finds there, including the occupants. He respects that those buildings are the domain and property of beings other than himself.

Character Occupation: If asked and if he feels like answering: a student with undecided major.
Race Information: Kobolds are sprites native to the central European area, mostly Germany and Austria, though they have spread into nearby countries. There are three kinds of kobolds: Domestic or house-dwelling (the most common), mine-dwelling, and ship-dwelling. All three varieties are known to be kind and malicious to the humans in their chosen homes, though the ones that live in mines are reputed to be particularly vicious and those on ships are more likely to be helpful.

Kobolds expect to be treated with respect, including being given offerings of food and drink everyday and having their place (usually a spot near the fireplace, in the case of Domestic kobolds) kept clean and free of clutter. So long as this happens, they're known to aide the humans they live with, doing small chores, cleaning, sometimes even going so far as to warn the humans of danger and helping them avoid it.

However, kobolds do not take kindly to anything to perceive as an insult. They have been known to be malicious to the point of dangerous. Some of the more infamous kobolds did everything they could to destroy the offender's life short of killing him. A few have even been known to haunt those people even after they've left the kobold-occupied dwelling.

As a species, kobolds side with neither the Seelie nor UnSeelie courts. The mine-dwellers are more likely to be seen with the UnSeelie when not in their homes, the ship-dwellers are more likely to be with the Seelie, and the domestic are usually hovering in between. Since they spend ninety-nine percent of their time in their chosen dwellings, they care little for the machinations of court or other Fae.

Third Person Sample:
Hands deep in soapy water, Hans ignored the looks his angry muttering was garnering from the students in the room behind him. He didn't give a damn what they thought of the "freshman" washing dishes in a plastic basin that took up half of the large sink. He'd already burned himself on a stainless-steel fork that had slid into the water --and when had "silverware" ceased to be made of silver?-- and was close to simply dropping the entire basin on the floor and vanishing. Let the vapid humans behind him take the blame for the resulting mess.

He couldn't follow through with that silent threat. Part of him wanted to, oh so badly wanted to, but to make a mess now, when no one had really done anything to deserve it, went entirely against his nature.

Someone had left him chocolate on the mantle this morning. Not the cheap kind that anyone could buy for a couple of marks (he refused to acknowledge any of that Euro business), but the good expensive Swiss chocolate; dark and bittersweet. He'd savored it that morning while watching the early news program. Even now, remembering it was enough to make him a little less rough with the plate he was scrubbing. For something like that, he would behave. It was his end of the deal, after all. Not THE Deal (which earned its capital letters), but the agreement that was part and partial with the carefully carved statue above Eichel's sole remaining fireplace.

So, he washed dishes.

And cursed not-so-silently when his fingers brushed another piece of not-so-silver flatware.

Notes: The deal/bargain I left open just in case someone came along that would want to be the one who bargained with him. Maybe it's a Council or Committee member, maybe someone else entirely. ;D

</lj>

I R IZ TEH NERD. :B I'm having a little squiggle-joy party over here because I FINALLY have a functioning scanner at work! It's cute, too; about 1/3 the size of the over-sized-paperweight/boat-anchor/shelf that was my old, non-working scanner. I have so much new space on my desk... I don't know what to do with it! I guess this little jy is nothing worse than when Amy was spazzing over getting a new mat-cutter. XD

That on top of finally being able to correctly calibrate my monitor has made this a very good week technologically. Also, installed Dreamweaver MX 2004 at home. It's not totally working yet, but I really like the layout of the working environment as opposed to that of Dreamweaver 3.

In other news, the process of moving in with Joel and the kids is going slow but steady. We're throwing a lot of stuff out that he's just had taking up space since he moved into that house, plus he's been rearranging furniture in preparation of fitting my few pieces in. The workshop/art room I requested as part of my conditions for moving in is slow going, but that's only because the condition of the basement was worse than we thought. >.< It's going to need a thorough scrubbing before we can start building, but, hey, at least we have lots of volunteers to help with those post-cleaning steps!

Oh,andIgotmyownaccountonWoW, STFU.
So, I stayed home from work yesterday. Joel called it "playing hookie" half in jest, but we all know it was my body getting back at me for not taking care of it. -.-

From the moment I lay down in bed Sunday night, to about 4:30 am Monday morning I was COUGHING. Sitting up straight helped me breath, but I can't sleep sitting up. So, I tried everything short of knock-out meds to get myself exhausted enough to ignore the wheezing in my lungs. Lotus tea with honey made me more sleepy, but did nothing for the cough and blowing my nose only helped for a little while. Ironically, my VaporRub was at Joel's house where I'd left it THAT MORNING, in anticipation of future colds while staying there.

D'oh!

Anyways... I finally got to sleep around 4:30; Joel called around 6:30 to wake me for work. No, I don't think so. Called the office at 7:10-ish, then slept off and on until about 3pm. I needed it and, frankly, I was home sick. I think I was justified to sleep for as long as I damn well pleased. :P

I had thought about doing art, but more coughing after I woke up killed that drive. Watched anime for an hour, then went to Joel's and killed time getting my Rogue to level 60 on WoW ((Ushii's gonna aim that rifle at me if I don't give her more attention soon, though. Taunt is less demanding, but I know the members of Loathing (her guild) better. XD))

I'm back at work now; cold still present, but with less wheezing and more nose-a-running. Bleh, to the nth.

In other words, he's a skinny bugger. Black hair cut shaggy to the nape of his neck. Dark brown eyes, almond-shaped, often narrowed. He usually dresses casually, but is never sloppy; accessories are kept to minimum. He wears glasses during class and while studying.

The human form he uses as Rokuta is very similar in appearance, with longer, red-tinted hair. Usually wearing whatever he was wearing as Shinsuke, but yukata or casual traditional clothes are also common, depending on the situation. His true form is that of a larger than normal (approximately 5' tall at the tips of his ears) Hokkaido red fox with five tails, bipedal and wearing an informal kimono. He can also appear as a normal fox.

Character Personality: On the surface, Shinsuke is comes off as intensely serious about his studies and nothing else. Many people tend to avoid him because of this, thinking that he’d be stiff and boring. While that perception isn't entirely incorrect and is indeed what helped him get accepted to Ausflucht, he's a lot more relaxed once a person gets past the ultra-studious exterior he presents in class.

Towards those he’s on good terms with, Shinsuke is friendly and helpful. He enjoys hanging out with friends or even just friendly acquaintances when he’s not studying, even when they go out drinking. Despite not being of legal drinking age in Japan, it’s obvious that he’s experienced and can hold his liquor, something most people don’t expect when they first meet him.

He has a dry sense of humor, prone to making sarcastic comments when he thinks they’re deserved. Both this and his unwillingness to fight get him into trouble more often than not.

He rarely gets truly angry about anything at all, preferring not to fight. He won’t get upset if someone interrupts his studies, nor will he scoff those who are lax about them. Even in situations where the others involved are violently angry, Shinsuke is likely to remain unimpressed and even-tempered. This mild attitude seems to make him the perfect target for bullies and, indeed, his junior and senior high school years were speckled with a series of incidents.

In reality, Rokuta isn’t about to try and fight those physically stronger than him (as kitsune rarely have a strength advantage over a human), but he'd sooner lose his tails than let a measly human brute get away with insulting him. It was often worth enduring a little abuse just for the fun of getting revenge. Make no mistake, Shinsuke Hino is just a character, one the kitsune has been playing for nearly two decades and will continue playing until it is no longer convenient or interesting to do so. A name, a mask and a script, but it is always Rokuta inside.

Beneath his human guise (or perhaps, alongside it) Rokuta is just as easy-going and smiles often; as prone to the occasional prank -- or more than -- as any of his kind. He trusts very few people completely, but, then again, very few people trust him. A favor given is a favor earned, however, and Rokuta believes in repaying his debts. He is fair within the bounds of his own morality and loyal to his allies, friends and family, willing to help them where he will not help others.

Some of his likes and dislikes do leak through when he is appearing as Shinsuke. He can appreciate a good practical joke, whether he or another executes it, even if the joke was ON him. He enjoys liquor of almost every kind and, if given the opportunity or reason, he’ll drink himself under the table. That weakness is one he keeps under tight wraps, for it’s when he’s drunk or extremely tired that his illusions are weakest, including that of his human form.

Though he has never married a human, he has had affairs of all sorts with members of both genders, from one-night stands to committed relationships that lasted years. His perception of attractiveness is fickle and he’s just as likely to want someone who is considered ugly or boring physically as he is someone who is considered beautiful. And while Shinsuke isn’t likely to ever openly confess romantic or sexual interest in anyone who isn’t female, gender isn’t something the kitsune considers very much when it comes to having fun.

Character Biography: Like many Kitsune, Rokuta was born a normal fox in the wilds of Japan. He understood that he was more than ordinary when he had out-lived even his great-grandchildren and so set out to find others like him. He didn't have to search long; not more than a couple days into his journey, they found him.

Since the late 17th century, Rokuta has lived a double life, one in the human world and one with the spirits. The name "Rokuta", in fact, was the name he chose for his first and favorite long-term human guise. He has used the form repeatedly over the centuries and prefers it over all others save his true form.

In order to better understand humans and to deepen his knowledge of them, he also has a habit of living and "growing up" with a human couple as their child, remaining in that guise until the human form reaches adulthood. Hino Tsuyoshi and his wife Mariko are the fifth couple to become his chosen family.

Shinsuke's adoption papers state that he was three years old when the Hinos, unable to have a child of their own, took him in. He was bright and, even though his parents spoiled him, he was never bratty or demanding. His father was a middle-class businessman who made a decent living while Mrs. Hino stayed at home with the boy until he was old enough to go to school, at which time she started working part-time.

Shinsuke was considered something of a nerd and, though he wasn’t without friends, he was a target for bullying up through his last year of high school. One of the reasons could have been that he never fought back or responded to insults, but he never caved under them, either.

He never complained to anyone but his friends, so no one with authority ever knew about the incidents. However, not long after each and every incident, Shinsuke's attacker would be plagued by odd occurrences. It could have been anything, from finding themselves assaulted by a gang of street thugs, to something as simple as tripping on air and falling face first to the gymnasium floor. Only a scant few ever made the connection between the bullies’ actions toward Shinsuke and the string of misfortune afterwards.

After all, no kitsune worth his tails would be caught so easily.

Shinsuke chose to go into business after high school, following in his father’s footsteps. However, showing rare ambition, he chose to focus on International Business, instead of just a general overview of the profession. He minored in Linguistics, knowing that half of understanding how to conduct business in other countries would be to understand the languages.

Thus, when the council called on Rokuta to go see what was up at Ausflucht, he had a viable reason to take a semester abroad in Europe. The choice of education was, in fact, made in hopes that they would send him out of Japan. Already fluent in English and Mandarin, with some basic knowledge of French and Dutch, he buckled down on learning German immediately. While he didn’t have enough time to become fluent before leaving, he didn’t anticipate having enough problems that his mission – to spy on the humans who found the mermaid and to watch the spies and representatives from other areas of the world – would be in danger.

Character Occupation: Student, majoring in International Business, minoring in Linguistics. Oh, and a spy for the Japanese arm of the Council, but -- shhh -- no one is supposed to know about that.

Race Information: The word kitsune, directly translated, means "fox" but also is used to refer to the spirit foxes. Nearly all kitsune were once mortal foxes; they are the ones who continued to grow in wisdom and knowledge, leaving behind their mortality. The only exceptions are the white kitsune who serve the god Inari directly; they are immortal spirits with neither birth nor death.

Humans have many legends about kitsune. They are tricksters and scholars, lowly thieves and holy beings that serve Inari and bless his worshipers. There are tales of them helping those who deserve it and they are reputed to be completely sexual beings, often turning into men and women with the sole purpose of having wild sex with ignorant humans. Most kitsune will neither deny nor confirm any of this.

Kitsune magic, with few exceptions, is based entirely on illusion and deception. Even their ability to appear human is little more than a highly advanced illusion, convincing every physical sense that they are the human they're pretending to be. They're adept at fooling the senses into believing the illusions they create, but they cannot directly influence a person's mind. Consequently, they can disguise themselves as anyone or anything, though what, who, and how convincingly depends on the kitsune. Weaker kitsune find their illusions broken the moment they are startled or taken off guard. Others can create false lifetimes for those trapped in their hidden worlds.

The two known abilities kitsune have that are not illusion are the kitsune-bi or foxfire, and the ability to possess humans. The fire usually appears as one or many balls of blue flame often used it to mislead and deceive humans into thinking it is a lantern or the lights of a house, getting them lost. Possessing humans is something only the highest-ranking kitsune can do, as they are the closest to being pure spirit.

The strength of a kitsune's power can be determined by the number of tails it has, the most powerful and usually the oldest having nine. Human legends differ as to when a kitsune gains its next tail, but none of them are truly correct. The change is dependent on the individual kitsune, not a set time line or specific event.

Third Person Sample:

Rokuta dropped his messenger bag onto the floor beside him, sitting in the chair indicated. The woman who had ushered him into her office was now sitting down across from him, a sturdy, cluttered office desk between them. She was in charge of the student exchange program and was essentially his general adviser while he remained at Ausflucht. Or, to be more accurate, Shinsuke’s adviser. After all, she would never know that he was anything other than a regular human student.

“This meeting will be brief. I realize that you must still be exhausted from your flight, so don’t worry that I’m going to be holding you up for hours with paperwork. I can’t vouch for what your professors might have you do, however.” Her smile was practiced, meant to put a nervous student at ease. Rokuta nodded, returning the smile with a weak one of his own.

It was his first day on the Ausflucht campus, having just flown in from Japan that morning, and already he could tell that the next few months would be very interesting. So very different from home, from the scents in the air to the way sunlight sifted through the clouds. There was a thrill of being here, in a place so vastly different that it almost made his head spin.

"I take it you found your dorm all right, Mr... Shin-suke Hi-no? I'm sorry, is that right?" She pronounced it "shine-sook hai-no"; he bit back a sigh. At least she wasn't presuming that her attempt was correct.

"Shins'ke Hino, if you please," he replied, the slide of familiar syllables jarring with the accented German that followed. He'd learned through experience that while native English or Mandarin-speakers had little trouble with it, the German language had an entirely different way of pronouncing the romanization of his name. He was willing to bet he'd be correcting a good number of people during his stay at Ausflucht. "The directions sent with my travel information were very good, thank you. I did not have trouble."

The woman nodded and continued spouting reassurances, but Rokuta had already half tuned her out. He’d heard this sort of hollow speech before and, even if she did say something important, he had no doubt that he would catch and remember it later. In the meantime, he began to catalog a few other non-human scents he thought he’d identified on the walk from his dorm to the main campus. If even half of them were informants for the Council as well… this would be an interesting semester indeed.

Notes: Accent is one of the few things he cannot mimic flawlessly and is something that will always give him away as foreign when he changes forms. He can try and make people think they're hearing him speak with the correct accent, but a sharp mind can easily see through that, so it's a trick he doesn't try often.

Also, Rokuta can and will change into a woman if he needs to, or even just for the fun of it, but he prefers being the gender he was born. That and he'd rather not put aside Shinsuke more than he has to.

OMFG, I took too long writing this! XD

I'm the one with the blond wig, FYI. ^_^ The second is a group picture from the EGL tea party Saturday afternoon.
And all the photos from the doll meet-up on Sunday, August 31st. ImageShack posted them in reverse order again, so the first one shown was the last picture taken. :P

Val, in his new wig, is the red-blond in the first picture, Sakata's Nym is the blond Yes, I know there's a lot of pictures of them being... affectionate. There's a story behind the two characters, so it stems from that.

So many very interesting dolls were seen over the weekend! Makes me eager to get more of my own, even though I haven't be able to give the ones I have very much attention lately. :/

Finally posting photos!

Posted from ImageShack, but edited here. :) Here's all the photos from the doll meet-up on Satuday, August 30th. For some reason, ImageShack posted them in reverse order, so, actually, the first one shown was the last picture taken. :P

My boy, Valindil (Val) is the red-blond in the middle of the first picture, just so you know. Sakata's Nym is to Val's right, our left. ^_^ It was a fun meet up, as was Sunday, which I'll be posting next.

...I might want to casually get back into drawing dragons and other non-bipedal fantasy creatures. I went through that stage as a kid where that was all I drew, but as I got more into comics through Amy, I sort of lost track of it. I can't even draw a decent horse, now, let alone a unicorn or anything else. :/

But I'm thinking of learning. I dunno, I blame Kristen. But I also blame her for my unsurity because the dragon I would put forth for the dragon_swap isn't one that was originally a dragon, nor is she as tightly bound to me than some are to their otherselves. ^.^;; I feel like a poseur. *LOL* Ukchan's a gargoyle first and there's not much I can do about that, even if I give her a dragon form. Heck, really, being an avatar she should have a form designed for almost any situation, so that really gets around that. XD

So, yeah, thinking about it. I have until Thursday to apply to the group, though I don't have to sign up for the round, so I'd have time to finalize a design. On the plus side, with Ukchan being a gargoyle she already has wings, horns, and tail. ^_^

Is it just me, or is it weird that my avatar (Ukchan) does not share my call name(Mercedes)? And the character that DOES share my call name is not my avatar? It's funny in a shake my head and shrug sort of way. "Mercedes" is the name I've used for about 10 years, so it's automatic, but "Ukchan" was GIVEN to me, so it means something different. Sort of.... Merc is my public name and everyone uses it (some people even in person), but "Ukchan" is more personal, ya know?

Hmm, I may have just answered some of my questions, though, on the dragon front -- I'm still a poseur. X3 Bah, I'll probably do it anyway because I miss drawing dragons and while I really could just redesign my Sssaikkr-i, they look more like Velocirapters on acid than relatives of dragons. *LOL*
